Carbon
monoxide (CO) is a colourless, odourless, poisonous gas, It is
produced during the incomplete burning of carbon-based fuels, such as
oils natural gas, wood and coal. Once inhaled Carbon monoxide prevents
the blood from carrying oxygen to the body's cells, resulting in
asphyxiation. Every year
approximately 20 people die from CO poisoning caused by gas appliances
and flues that have not been properly installed or maintained.
Still others also suffer ill health
from the effects of non-fatal exposures..
It is only when the fuels do not burn
correctly, that excess CO is produced, which is poisonous.
As you can not see, taste it or smell
it, CO can kill quickly without warning.
